Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 7, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Wockett ("the App", "We", "Us") handles your information when you use our iOS application. We are committed to being transparent and collecting only what is necessary to make the app work.

Summary

Wockett is a local-first app. We do not operate servers of our own, do not create user accounts, and do not sell or share your personal data. Your data lives on your device and, if you use iCloud, syncs between your devices through your own private iCloud storage — where we cannot see it. The only information that ever becomes visible to other people is community content you explicitly choose to publish (see "Community content" below). Some features use Apple's own services (Maps, Weather, Health, iCloud) — those interactions are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

What We Access and Why

Data Purpose Stored or shared?
Location (while using the app) Generate nearby walking route suggestions; track your position during navigation; calculate distance walked Your live position is used on-device only during active walks. Route generation and street-level previews send coordinate data to Apple's Maps services, and the elevation chart for a selected route sends that route's coordinates to OpenTopoData (see Third-Party Services) — no personal information, account, or device identifier is included with either. Wockett itself never receives or stores your location. A GPS track may be saved temporarily to your device (see Walk Resume below).
Walk history Remember completed walks so you can view your history and repeat favourite routes Stored on your device (route name, date, distance, duration, GPS waypoints) and synced between your devices through your own private iCloud database via Apple's CloudKit. This private database belongs to your Apple Account — Wockett (the developer) cannot access or read it. Nothing is transmitted to us.
Walk resume Allow you to pick up a walk where you left off if the app is closed mid-session Your walk progress (including GPS track points) is temporarily saved to your device. If the walk is not resumed within 4 hours, it is automatically ended and saved to your Walk History like any completed walk (where you can delete it at any time), and the temporary checkpoint is deleted.
Local notifications Water break reminders and scheduled walk reminders Reminders are local notifications only — no server is involved. Wockett never sends you marketing or remote push notifications. Apple's iCloud service does deliver silent, invisible background signals to keep your own data in sync between your devices; these are handled entirely by Apple.
HealthKit Read your daily step count to track goal progress; write completed workouts (distance, duration, calories, GPS route) to Apple Health Step count is read from your Health app. Completed walks and rides are written to Apple Health on your device. No Health data is transmitted to Wockett or any third party.
Weather (via Apple WeatherKit) Display weather conditions for suggested routes Fetched using your approximate location by Apple's WeatherKit service. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Community content (optional) Share routes with the community, join challenges, and post to the achievement feed Only if you choose to publish: shared route names and paths, challenge entries, and feed posts are stored in Apple's public CloudKit database and are visible to other Wockett users. Nothing is published automatically — every share is an explicit action. You can report or block content from other users, and community text is filtered before publishing. Your walk history, health data, and live location are never part of community content.

You can revoke any of these permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Wockett.
